A customer grinding steel beams was having issues with their grinding. Not only was it costly, but change-outs were taking up time and worker fatigue was an issue due to excess wheels loading.

The customer initially didn’t even know they had a problem since it was “the way things had always been”. Once that was established, extensive testing of different wheels was done to test performance, life, and ease of use. Then the results were compared and the options weighed. Once the best wheel was chosen Martin led training so that maximum value would be achieved.

The new wheel outperformed the old ones by a substantial margin. Usage has dropped from 120 wheels/day down to 24, resulting in a hard cost savings of $94,500. Also, with the new high performance wheels did not load, resulting in less fatigue, a lower injury risk, and an increase in the amount of work that could be done.
