Shoals Area Special Olympics Charity Golf Tournament
Supporting children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities is close to Martin’s heart. We proudly coordinate and sponsor the annual Shoals-Area Special Olympics Charity Golf Tournament which helps raise funds for various Special Olympics and recreational programs. Over 250 individuals in Colbert and Lauderdale Counties in Alabama benefit from these programs which are totally dependent upon donations. Without these programs, Shoals-area residents with special needs would have very limited social and recreational activities to help them thrive.
It Takes a Village
Through generous safety and industrial supplier sponsors, Shoals-area businesses, and kind-hearted golf participants, the tournament has been able to:
- Send athletes to Special Olympics Alabama
- Support the installation of a special needs baseball field
- Construct a Shoals-area group home with Shoals Habitat for Humanity
- Support Tim Tebow Foundation’s Night to Shine Shoals—a prom night experience for those ages 14 and older
- Provide funding for 24 special education classrooms in Colbert and Lauderdale county and city schools
- Complete construction funding for Rotary STAR Play, an adaptive playground for children with special needs
