Situation

A leading steel producer and recycler was constructing its largest steel mill in company history in a rural part of West Virginia. The expansive property spans over 6 miles and would host more than 2,000 contractors and hundreds of team members during the construction phase. Given the limited infrastructure in the area, delivering safety equipment, basic PPE, and general construction supplies posed a significant challenge.

Solution

To address this, Martin Supply established an On-Site Martin Store, fully stocked with essential safety equipment and construction supplies, eliminating lead times for critical items. The store would be managed by a full-time Martin employee, with a Martin safety specialist conducting weekly visits to ensure ongoing support and compliance.

Outcome

With Martin Supply handling the day-to-day safety supply operations, the steel producer’s safety department could concentrate on crucial safety measures. New team members are promptly outfitted with necessary gear, including boots, gloves, glasses, vests, and workwear, without the need for requisitions, purchase orders, receiving, or accounts payables. This streamlined process provided quick and efficient service, reducing administrative burden and ensuring a safer, more productive work environment.
